Stay ahead of technology trends in 2022 to prepare your business for success. Discover the six dominant trends based on expert research and customer insights.
“Harnessing machine learning can be transformational, but for it to be successful, enterprises need leadership from the top. This means understanding that when machine learning changes one part of the business - the product mix, for example - then other parts must also change. This can include everything from marketing and production to supply chain, and even hiring and incentive systems.” (Erik Brynjolfson, director of the MIT initiative on the digital economy)
1. Data Fabric
As we all know the number of skilled professionals in data and analytics has not increased enough to meet the demand of organizations. Data fabrics - a flexible, resilient integration of data across platforms and business users - have emerged to simplify an organization’s data integration infrastructure. Data fabrics create a scalable architecture that reduces the technical challenges seen in most data and analytic teams due to the rising integration challenges. Data fabrics real value is its ability to dynamically improve data usage with its inbuilt analytics, cutting data management efforts by up to 70% and accelerating time to value [i].[i] Gartner Identifies the Top Strategic Technology Trends for 2022 (October 18, 2021) https://www.gartner.com/en/newsroom/press-releases/2021-10-18-gartner-identifies-the-top-strategic-technology-trends-for-2022 .
2. Digital Twins
In manufacturing, bigger is better. In the 20th century, that truth was self-evident: economies of scale and lower unit costs were proportional to the production run. In the 21st century, however, the manufacturing landscape is changing. Tools and technologies formerly restricted to large operations are becoming more affordable and accessible to small and medium sized manufacturers. Cloud-based engineering solutions add data continuity, an added safety factor where data is increasingly the most valuable asset in the business. This means lower costs, better profitability and faster time to market for firms ready to embrace advanced technology. In today’s world digital renderings of component parts, assemblies and fixture are nothing new. This digitization of the workplace has been ad hoc and distributed. Design, manufacturing, production planning and MRO frequently operate as independent “silos” within the organization. But if this data could be aggregated and expanded to allow total process simulation of an actual production process, the potential for new insight into operations is obvious, and it’s used every day in large manufacturing businesses. It’s called the Digital Twin.
3. Decision Intelligence (DI)
Decision intelligence is a practical discipline to improve decision making by explicitly understanding and engineering how decisions are made. The decision-making competency of an organization can be a competitive advantage of the organization. Decision intelligence outcomes are evaluated, managed and improved by feedback. In the next two years, a third of large organizations will be using decision intelligence for structured decision-making [i].[i] Gartner Identifies the Top Strategic Technology Trends for 2022 (October 18, 2021) https://www.gartner.com/en/newsroom/press-releases/2021-10-18-gartner-identifies-the-top-strategic-technology-trends-for-2022
4. Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI)
One of the most visible and powerful AI techniques coming to market is generative AI- machine learning methods. Generative AI is a machine learning method that learns about content or objects from their data, and it is used to generate new, completely original, and realistic artifacts. Generative AI can be used for a range of activities. Facilitating drug development, creating software code and targeted marketing are some of its examples. However, it can also be misused for scams, fraud, political disinformation, forged identities and more. Gartner expects generative AI to account for 10% of all data produced by 2025, up from less than 1% today.
5. Cybersecurity Mesh (CSMA)
CSMA helps to provide an integrated security structure and to secure all assets, regardless of its location. According to Forbes, organizations adopting CSMA to integrate security tools to work as a cooperative ecosystem will reduce the financial impact of individual security incidents by on average 90% by 2024.
6. AI Engineering
IT leaders are wasting time and money on AI projects that are never put in production. Besides this they also struggle to integrate AI within applications or struggle to retain value from AI solutions once released. AI engineering is an integrated approach to operationalize AI models. The real differentiator for organizations will lie in their ability to continually enhance value through rapid AI change. By 2025, 10% of enterprises that establish AI engineering best practices will generate at least three times more value from their AI efforts than the 90% of enterprises that do not.
